‘Ancient Astronauts Invade Chicago 2010′ Mix!

'Ancient Astronauts Invade Chicago 2010' Mix

Essentially, this promo mix release is one bigger track made up of four mini mix-installments or Visits influenced by the German DJ/production duo, Ancient Astronauts (ESL Music/Switchstance Recordings).  The two gents, Kabanjak and Dogu, use different styles and work them into a grand allure that’s become their trademark sound, recognized by music communities internationally. Four of Chicago’s favorite DJs each composed a 20-minute mix that takes Ancient Astronauts’ notable approach and slight-twists it into a stirring sonic presentation. Each installment contains bass and beats that blubber and punctuate steady syncopation and cadence, while incorporating sounds that normally never meet.  Check out the mix-tetralogy here! DJ John Simmons, DJ Trew, DJ Newlife, and DJ Intel open for Ancient Astronauts.  Ground Lift Media, Redlight Productions, and The Dirty Social present a Pre-Lollapalooza event on August 5, 2010 at the Darkroom (2210 W Chicago Ave, Chicago IL)  More information on their live performance can be found at http://www.groundliftmedia.com or http://www.darkroombar.com

Maker x Rob Wonder x Scion: “No Static At All” EP

As part of Scion’s new Radio 17 Host EP series, Atlanta DJ Rob Wonder created “No Static At All,” a companion compilation for his streaming radio station of the same name. Like Wonder’s radio show, the EP is a rumbling mix of music styles and young talent from around the planet such as Bok Bok, Kastle, Kingdom and Klever.

Ground Lift Media artist Maker chimes in with two productions, “Juke Me” & “Silver Mountain“. The former appears on the long-awaited sophomore LP by Chicago’s own Psalm One, and the latter appears here as an instrumental but will also feature verses from Qwel on Qwel & Maker’s upcoming album titled Owl (Galapagos4).

As Wonder says, “This collection of sounds was put together to move minds, hearts and feet.” Coinciding with this musical release, there is also a booklet (available both in print and digitally) about “No Static At All” featuring tweaked creature illustrations by Atlanta art legend R. Land. (Tracklist below)

The first of five releases of 2010, the gentlemen of 1773 emerge from the bone-chilling Chicago Winter having spent the past 5 months in full-on production mode. Featuring beatmaker talent from across the globe and a myriad of local Hip-Hop artists, their lead mixtape titled Mixed Signals Vol.1 (release date 5/28/2010) began as a single release but the overwhelming response from guest MCs necessitated two installments.

Hosted by Donwill (of Tanya Morgan), Volume 1 features include: Visual (Molemen/Community Service), Elevation (Fordafresh), Love Jones, MC Sick of Pseudo Slang (Fat Beats), Neak, Add-2, Sincerely Yours, Verbal Kent (Gravel), Phero, Itch13 (Superheroes of Sound), Cerebral Vortex (of Vertual Vertigo, MPM), Philip Morris, Awdazcate, and K-Sera. Certainly one of these names rings a bell, and if not considerthis a wakeup call!

MP3: Que B.I.L.L.A.H. “The Fresh Air Syndrome”

At the end of the day, Q.B.’s clever wordplay, entertaining subject matter and unusual character are what will open the world’s eyes and allow him to introduce himself“-Tory Fredricks ( Source Magazine, Unsigned Hype 2005.)

His reputation for having one of the best live performances in Chicago, as well as his ability to pack crowds into venues with no record deal or radio play has set the stage for Que B.I.L.L.A.H.‘s entrance onto the global Hip-Hop scene.

The lead single from his upcoming still motion video album Thousand Words, “The Fresh Air Syndrome” is a light, thought-provoking anecdote bringing a combination of party-yielding hook and beat with rational questions.  Que’s rhythmic accuracy is almost too easy, and the song breezes by without resistance. The messages are complex, and listening may be effortless.  But pay close attention — “The Fresh Air Syndrome” addresses Que’s thematic tones of social awareness, fashion, gender inter-relational behaviors and interactions.

MP3: 1773 “The Goodness feat. Othello”

1773′s talent exudes in the studio and on stage. Their performance stands louder nowhere else than within the arenas of charisma and great sound replication. The members of 1773 are disciples of music, Chicago and her cultural stock. Through the sweltering thick of this city’s talent, emerged a group that calls upon the cadences of hip-hop’s truest and congruent times…

On their first full length release for 2010 titled Sound Soulstice, produced entirely by Australian producer ARKiV, Sound Soulstice will be 1773’s third project on River City Music Entertainment. The lead single “The Goodness” finds Just Jay, Wisdm O.N.E. alongside special guest, and long-time 1773 collaborator Othello spitting over a Dilla-esque banger laced with an all too obscure Bobby Lyle sample.

1773 x Bill Withers “Make A Smile” (Trishes & TREW remix)

http://www.stillbillthemovie.com/images/header_main.jpg

In celebration of the legendary soul singer Bill Withers‘ new documentary Still Bill, 1773 is leaking their remix of Wither’s song “Make A Smile” from their upcoming mixtape Mixed Signals Vol.1 (release date 5/28/2010, hosted by Donwill of Tanya Morgan). This remix was originally released as a re-edit by Austrian beatmaker Trishes and here you’ll find 1773 meshing naturally with Wither’s heartfelt sentiment and Trishes boom-bap arrangements.

ODB Tribute: DJ Big Once @ Uberjam 11/21/09

Big Once (aka DJ Once A Month, Lab-O Records) was our special guest this month at Uberjam for our first annual RIP ODB celebration.  We had hoped to record his set live that evening but dim lighting, beer, and technical difficulties prevailed. But Once is a professional and this afternoon during a live, 20 minute one take session he recorded his entire set for us! Not tracked out or manipulated in any way, this is essentially an exact duplicate of what went down @ Uberjam. Enjoy!
